EXCERPT: It gives us great pleasure to have had the opportunity to edit this Special Issue. This is the third Special Issue on Botulinum Toxin published by Dermatologic Surgery. The first, published in 1998, was very anecdotal and contained little hard data—but that was all we had at that point. The second, in 2003, was a transition point with the establishment of hard scientific backing for much of our clinical practice. We believe that this latest Special Issue goes even further, continuing the process of establishing scientific fact upon which we can base our clinical practice but also continuing to open up new vistas of clinical use for botulinum toxin.
